Signs and Faith
Updated: Feb 11
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14 From the beginning, we could see the prophecies about the coming of the Messiah. When the first human fell from grace and sinned, at that time God promised a savior who will save His people. "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15) Throughout the old testament, we could see prophecies about the coming of Jesus, and Isaiah 9:6 is one of those verses. And when Jesus came and showed so many signs and revealed to us the mysteries of heaven like never before. But many people at that time were blind and ignored God himself in human form. As the Bible says, "He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him." (John 1:10-11) They had sight but they were blind and couldn't able to comprehend the light. The Word itself came into this world but their deceitful heart did not accept it. Today we could see many people around us are looking for some sort of sign to believe in the only living God. Their thinking is, 'unless I see something in my own life, I won't believe or unless I feel some sort of sensational feeling inside of me, I won't believe.' But the Bible says exactly the opposite of it, "Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29) Now I'm not saying that miracles don't happen but all I'm saying is that we shouldn't just run after signs to believe. There are enough signs around us to believe like the first ray of sun, the wind around us, and the biggest of all is that you and I are alive. CS Lewis once said, "I believe in Christ as I believe in the sun- not because I can see it, but because of it I can see everything else"
Bible says signs will accompany those who believe, it does not say, believe in signs, rather than it does say believe in Jesus because only He can save us. If you have to build your faith and grow in grace, start to not just read your Bible but study it and pray to God. Our faith should be scripturally grounded.
And in this Christmas season as Isaiah 9:6 states, that he is a wonderful counselor and Prince of peace. If you are also running after signs, first stop doing that, and if you facing some kind of problem in your life and circumstances are against you and you don't have any peace. So let me tell you Jesus is calling you, he is ready to embrace you, counsel you, comfort you. Just believe in Him and have faith that only HE can.
